pencil and oil pastel on watercolour paper · 2025

A drink sits on a Barcelona beach, bright and uncomplicated. A moment of color and light with friends, a summer ritual.
But the title splits in two: the Spanish word breaks, and in Arabic script, death arrives at the bottom.
Across that same Mediterranean, Lebanon struggles to enjoy the same experiences.
The drink is still the same, but in a second appraisal, carries a different subtext. The sea beyond holds the same as the shores upon the artist's homeland.
ver [behr] - (v.) to see/ to perceive with the eyes / to picture / to comprehend
موت [/muːt/] - (n.) death
It's not romantic; it's not complex. It's simply the impossible fact of being here, alive, drinking, while they die.
