Honey is one of the oldest known preservatives; archaeologists have found edible honey in Egyptian tombs thousands of years old. Things sealed in honey don't decay. This painting proposes a place, expected and supposed to be one thing, but demonstrably several: some microcosms warm, some not; all held in the same ancient structure. The promise in the title severed before it completes itself, 'milk and – ' is an interpretation of any interpretation of a honeycomb; leaving the audience without.
