Beetle Bugg

The scarab in Egyptian tradition is one of the oldest symbols of regeneration and protection; amulets, seals, tomb objects. Something small and dismissible as insignificant, but which shimmers with vibrant color and carries enormous cosmological weight. In Northern European natural history illustration, insects were rendered with the same gravity as human subjects, observed as worthy of that level of attention. Beetle bugg sits between those two registers: the beetle as specimen worthy of close looking, and the beetle as something that endures, that persists, that keeps moving through chaos in spite of it; still the most vibrant, colorful little bug it can be.
